Just a picture from Earth Hour last Saturday - the only candle we have unpacked - a wedding gift - beautiful! More evenings by candlelight, please!

Twenty-seven (the sequel) has been great - nothing crazy this year, just nice. Last night went out for dinner with Matt to Sauvignon on Queen East - GREAT food, then went to see The Adjustment Bureau - really liked it - not as much action as I thought (GOOD), and more of a love story plot intertwined - highly recommended. Today went to Starbucks and Cobb's for some caffeine and baked deliciousness, and now going to work on the basement.
Matt got me Glee Season 2 Volume 1, and a trip to Lulu in the future for some new stuff. My parents got me a new Moen kitchen faucet (oh so practical - ours was leaking), the annual March Break Spa date with my mom (going on Tuesday to Elmwood), and also going to see GLEE on June 12th with my mom! That was a great surprise - I was spoiled this year! Got some money from family towards our trip in the summer too, so that was excellent. I want to learn to make and ice this cake - it looks delicious, so of course it is by Martha. Sort of Valentine's Day dinner last night. We don't celebrate it, but we had an afternoon where I had finished school work and we were done packing for the day, and so took the time to prep all the vegetables, slow cook the lamb in a great wine sauce, and make polenta (which turned out a bit more liquidy than would have liked, but it was a first, and it still tasted delicious). Matt also bought me flowers (white and red tulips) while he was out getting groceries (love).
Matt and I went on our first date, and had our first kiss, 5 years ago today. We met a few weeks before this at university in 2006, but I ran away from him those few times to avoid the awkward porch moment. Without our meddling friends, I'm sure he would have taken this reaction as a "go away" and never put in any effort. *Thanks Steph & Neil* When you get married, your numbers start all over. In a few weeks, we will have been married 6 months, but we have been together for over 5 years, and been a family, living together, for two and a half. I'm looking forward to our first wedding anniversary, where we will be somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea, on a cruise, enjoying the sun in the day and the stars at night. I'm also looking forward to many more real and old anniversaries, and surprises like the one I found on the kitchen counter when I got home: Unexpected, unnecessary, but wonderful none the less.
Love you, Matty, always. OK that is probably a bit of an overstatement. He is really at a conference in Ottawa until Thursday. I still don't have to like it!
Feeling better - Matt never actually got the full blown flu - just sick for a few days and then he was completely back to normal. I am just finally over it now, I think - breath control still a bit weak.
Last weekend we did some packing, and this weekend was nice and relaxing. Saturday lounged all day, and then went to a late dinner at Marcel's Bistro on King Street - great French food, including soup, braised rack of lamb, and creme brulee - yum! It was nice to have a dinner where we got dressed up, took our time, had some wine, talked - so many times I feel rushed at restaurants, but going later after all the theatre crowd had left really helped. Today Matt was packing for his 3 day trip to Ottawa for a conference, and we realized he has no black dress pants. Well he does, but they are too short and weirdly baggy in the legs. I FORCED him to the Eaton Centre and to Banana Republic for some new pants - and they were 25% off. Since I forced him to buy them, I gave him my BR gift card from my birthday last year that I still hadn't used - I know - so nice, but now he OWES me, and you never know when I'll pull that card out! Probably an extra super nice birthday present - Lululemon EVERYTHING! Oh yeah, and along with this shopping trip I also got a Lululemon Stride jacket - nice and long and fitted and wonderful. I also took back the Coach purse my mom got me for Christmas, I didn't get anything new because they only had Spring stuff, but I'll probably get one suitable for travelling for our cruise. The Coach store people DIED when I pulled it out - people LOVED this purse, I feel bad now that I gave it up - it was an incredible deep purple colour, but the style just wasn't me. Unfortunately, it's into Spring colours now, so no more purple except for the pale stuff. We came home and had an early dinner of fajitas, watched Shrek Forever After, and now he's continuing to pack while I blog. He's gone until Thursday, so I'll have the house to myself - maybe I'll start prepping for next semester like I should? More likely I'll just mark, eat chocolate, and watch girly TV. Yep - sounds like a plan. I think I'll attempt to go back to the gym this week too - wish me luck! 2 people with the flu in a one bedroom condo, both whiny, tired, achy, and heavily medicated.
My husband and I have started a new tradition last year - similar to what my parents do I believe - make a whole bunch of appetizers and eat them as dinner, drink champagne, and watch movies. This year it will be Dexter Season 5 instead of movies! I'm excited! Hopefully we can stay awake until midnight! Neither of us are big into celebrating it, but perhaps next year we'll actually have a house to have a party in! Have fun everyone, but be safe!
Tomorrow: Resolutions? Christmas Eve we went to my parents' house and opened some gifts. My mom got me a purple Coach purse - very pretty! She also got me some jeggings (which I am actually like more and more with my new boots), and some little things like a fancy key holder for work, a Glee calendar, and a little "just married" ornament for our tree. Coach Madison Purple Leather Convertible Hobo My dad got me my CAA membership - taken for granted that I get it each year, because it is expensive but very good in case of an emergency! My brother's girlfriend got me the second half of season 1 of Glee which I very much wanted, and my brother got me a Snuggie (a leopard print one). He likes getting me infomercial items - by the way - the Slap-Chop is AWESOME! I probably won't use this TOO much, but it is quite warm! My brother also got "us" an HBC gift card which we have used already on Boxing Day. Christmas morning we did our own thing (see yummy breakfast post below), and opened gifts. I got Matt the Danier leather work bag, a Banana Republic dress shirt, a lot of books (3 Christopher Buckley and 1 Terry Fallis - a sequel to a book I got him last year), some movies - The Great Escape and Casablanca, a winery calendar (very pretty pictures), plus stocking stuffers like boxers and socks and chocolate and a Men's Health suscription for the year. I got spoiled as always - I knew one of my presents already - the gray Banana Republic sweater (since I asked him to get it as a present about a month before), but I also got some pretty Swarovski crystal earrings, some books (a Twilight novella and the latest Shopaholic book), some movies (Twilight - Eclipse, and Despicable Me), new stemless wine glasses (only because he broke one a few weeks ago), a gorgeous silver bookend set in the shape of an apple (perfect for the new office in our new house), and lots of fun magazines in my stocking, plus some fun socks and Victoria Secret underwear as well (I was impressed he worked up the courage to go in THERE!). He also suprised me by framing some of our wedding pictures for the new house. The frames are beautiful, although I will probably change a lot of the pictures he chose, lol. I finished and received all 5 photobooks, which we looked through that morning and showed to our families! All complete with Jason Mraz lyrics on the cover. That afternoon we headed to Matt's parents' house, and had another Christmas celebration! They already gave us the gift of the cruise, which was incredibly generous. They also surprised us with some house gifts like gardening tools, a hose, and a leaf blower. His cousin Paul got us snow shovels as well - all great ideas - we wouldn't have thought of these things until it was too late and we really needed them - so perfect for us now! We saw lots of family and had an incredible dinner, and watched some hilarious old movies from when the kids were young. So cute. It was a busy family weekend, but really nice to see everyone. Cousin Love
